David Goukassian’s connection to the law began in Armenia, with his grandfather, a highly respected judge. Today, David brings that heritage to his practice in Michigan — and he is fluent in Armenian. For many families in our community, being able to explain what happened, ask questions, and understand every option in Armenian makes a real difference.
Why it matters to have a lawyer who speaks your language
- Nothing gets lost in translation. Legal problems depend on details. You can tell your story exactly the way it happened.
- Your whole family can understand. Parents and grandparents can take part in conversations and decisions without relying on a relative to interpret.
- You can ask every question. Many people hesitate to ask “basic” questions in a second language. With David, you don’t have to.
- Trust and respect. David understands the culture, the family dynamics, and the importance of reputation in our community — and he treats every matter with discretion.
In court, Michigan courts provide interpreters when needed. Outside the courtroom — in meetings, phone calls and every decision along the way — David can explain everything to you directly in Armenian. He is also conversational in Russian.
How we help Armenian families across Michigan
Car accidents and injuries
Michigan’s no-fault insurance system is confusing even for native English speakers. We help injured drivers, passengers and pedestrians collect the benefits they’re owed and pursue the at-fault driver. Car accident claims.
Dog bites
Michigan law generally holds dog owners responsible for bites, and their insurance usually pays — even when the dog belongs to a neighbor, friend or relative. Dog bite claims.
Criminal defense
From OWI and retail fraud to serious felonies, we defend people in courts across Michigan and in federal court in the Eastern District of Michigan. Criminal defense.
Criminal charges and immigration
For anyone who is not a U.S. citizen — including green card holders — a criminal case can carry consequences far beyond the courtroom. Certain convictions and guilty pleas can affect immigration status, future citizenship applications and travel. Before you accept any plea offer, make sure your lawyer has considered the immigration consequences. David takes these issues into account and can coordinate with your immigration attorney.

Frequently asked questions
Can I speak with David in Armenian?
Yes. David is fluent in Armenian, and your consultation can be entirely in Armenian. He is also conversational in Russian.
Will a criminal charge affect my immigration status or green card?
It can. Some convictions — and even some guilty pleas — can have serious immigration consequences, including for permanent residents. David considers immigration consequences when defending a case and can coordinate with your immigration attorney. Talk to us before you plead guilty to anything.
Do I need a green card or U.S. citizenship to make an injury claim?
If someone else’s carelessness injured you — in a crash or a dog attack — you may have a claim regardless of where you were born. Call us to talk through your situation confidentially.
Is our conversation confidential?
Yes. What you share with David for the purpose of getting legal advice is confidential, and the consultation is free.
