Felony courts
Felony cases start in the district court for the community where they happened. If a case isn’t dismissed or resolved after the preliminary examination, it moves to the county’s circuit court for trial and sentencing.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know which court my case is in?
Your ticket, bond paperwork or court notice will name the court. In general, a misdemeanor or traffic case is heard by the district court for the community where the offense happened, not where you live. Felonies start in that same district court and then move to the county’s circuit court.
My city isn’t listed. Can you still help?
Yes. We represent clients in district and circuit courts throughout Michigan. Call us and we’ll tell you which court handles your case and what to expect there.
What if I missed my court date?
Don’t wait. A missed date can lead to a bench warrant and, in traffic cases, a suspended license. Read what to do if you might have a warrant, then call us.
